At the same time, the brand is distinguished by a wide range of food from basic nutrition for everyone, to breed lines and veterinary diets. But, despite the variety and popularity, Royal Canin is not for everyone. Some dogs and cats are allergic even to the brand's hypoallergenic series. Others may not like corn, or the owners are thinking about feed a little more profitable. And there is a solution for every situation.

Most popular brands of food similar to Royal Canin

Despite the ban on the import of a number of high-quality foreign feeds, it is still possible to find a good option within the premium and super-premium classes in 2021, and well-known European brands still account for the bulk of the best diets.

Brit. A Czech brand that is often compared to Royal Canin due to the variety of lines, special diets and good value for money. At the same time, Brit wins over most analogues in hypoallergenicity, because many of the brand's feeds do not contain chicken and other potential allergens.

Pro planOne of the main competitors of Royal Canina, famous, above all, for the best selection of therapeutic diets. Pro Plan is ready to offer a solution for literally every pet's health problem and is often prescribed by veterinarians as part of therapy.

Monge. A popular Italian brand with an impressive variety of menus for every day.The difference between the lines here is much more noticeable than in analogues, because in addition to the average super-premium lines, very reminiscent of RK, Monge also offers improved BWILD and Monoprotein grain-free foods.

bozita. Swedish food manufacturer, especially loved by cat owners. It is for these pets that Bosita has provided the most varied diet and reasonable prices.

AnimondaA German company known for its lines of wet food for cats and dogs of all breeds. A special advantage of Animonda was a series of pies for the most fastidious pets.

Farmina. A large Italian manufacturer whose lines cover almost all segments of pet food from economy, premium and super-premium to professional lines for breeders, low-grain, grain-free and veterinary diets.

Grandorf. Despite the Russian origin, the products of this brand meet all European standards and are produced at the Monge plant in Italy (canned food) and United Petfood Producers NV in Belgium (dry food). At the same time, the brand's feed is exclusively low-grain and grain-free.

What to look for when choosing food?

The health of cats and dogs depends largely on nutrition. Therefore, it is so important to choose food that differs from economical solutions by the absence of dyes, preservatives and artificial flavors that drive pets into a frenzy and exorbitant appetite. But these components are not the only threat to the health of cats and dogs. Many of them are allergic to chicken, corn and citrus fruits. At the same time, a low content of high-quality protein components in the diet can lead to urolithiasis, loss of hearing and vision, problems with the skin, coat and digestive system.

It is best to give preference to feeds, the first positions of which are meat, fish or poultry of known origin, for example, dehydrated turkey meat. Indeed, at the beginning of the composition, the components whose content is highest are indicated. It is also worth paying attention to how the pet reacts to the food.

The best analogues of Royal Canin food for cats

A cat is a gentle and picky animal. It can be difficult to choose food that will not only be useful, but also appreciated by the purr. Often, cats may refuse food only because of a not too refined texture or an insufficient amount of meat in the composition. But there are a number of foods that, like Royal Canin, are well eaten by most pets, please with the best value for money in their category and, belonging to premium or even super-premium lines, are noticeably safer for health than economy foods from convenience stores. .

Top 5. ProBalance with chicken and turkey for cats

Rating (2022): 4.46
Accounted for 255 reviews from resources: Yandex.Market, OZON, korma55, OtzyvKorm
The lowest price

While other brands are raising and raising the cost, ProBalance is quite realistic to buy from 99 rubles per 400 grams. This is without a doubt the best price within the premium class.

Consistent Availability

Unlike most, this food is produced in the Russian Federation by order of a domestic company, which means that it does not depend on the exchange rate and sanctions, it is always in stock and available.

  • Average price: 460 rubles.
  • Country Russia
  • Age of animal: adults (1-6 years old)
  • Food type: dry
  • Flavor: turkey and chicken
  • Package weight, kg: 0.4; 1.8 and 10
  • Proteins: 32%
  • Fat: 14%
  • Ash: 6%

Despite the pleasant price, this analogue is even better than a number of varieties of Royal Canin. Here, poultry meat is in the first place and occupies more than 30% of the feed. Thanks to the rich taste of chicken and turkey and the right size of the granules, ProBalance is a favorite for cats. This is partly facilitated by the aromatic additive, but in small quantities it is present in many feeds. At the same time, ProBalance does not contain dyes and corn, which competitors love to dilute the composition to the detriment of pets' health. Instead, a healthy prebiotic and fish oil are added, along with the relatively harmless rice, barley, and oats. But because of these cereals, chicken and other features, the food is not suitable for everyone, in particular, it is poorly tolerated by sphinxes.

Pros and cons
  • Convenient granule size
  • Without corn and dyes
  • domestic production
  • Liked by many cats
  • Not for those prone to ICD and gastrointestinal problems
  • Rarely suitable for sphinxes

Top 4. Pro Plan Veterinary Diets Gastrointestinal for cats

Rating (2022): 4.53
Accounted for 848 reviews from resources: Yandex.Market, OZON, OtzyvKorm, IRecommend
The most popular diet for gastrointestinal problems

It is this food that is most often advised by veterinarians to restore the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and, as reviews show, it adequately copes with its task.

  • Average price: 978 rubles.
  • Country: USA (made in Italy)
  • Age of animal: adults (1-6 years old)
  • Food type: dry
  • Taste: chicken
  • Packaging options, kg: 0.4; 1.5
  • Proteins: 40%
  • Fats: 20%
  • Ash: 8.5%

Despite the better price than the analogue from Royal Canin, Gastrointestinal is very effective. It is distinguished by a well-thought-out composition and easily digestible components, including poultry protein and fish oil.Since cats with gastrointestinal problems often suffer from loss of appetite, the diet is supplemented with a flavoring additive, thanks to which the bowl quickly becomes empty, and the pet, which has become emaciated during the illness, quickly restores weight and normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. But this makes the food unsuitable for constant feeding. Like any treatment, it is applied in a course prescribed by a veterinarian. It is also important to consider the presence of potential allergens: soy, chicken, corn and flavoring. If they are intolerant, it is better to consider other brands of veterinary food, for example, Brit.

Pros and cons
  • Recommended by veterinarians
  • Easily digestible
  • Quick Recovery
  • Better than Royal Canina
  • Weight gain
  • Not suitable for continuous feeding
  • May cause allergies

The food was based on duck and pheasant flour with the addition of peas, as well as duck fillet, fish oil, herbs and algae. The quality of the components here is successfully combined with the optimal size and density of the granules, practical zip-lock packaging and a reasonable price, especially for 6 kg bags. But due to the lack of flavoring and the unusual taste of pheasant and duck, picky cats may be reluctant to eat the food. However, as the reviews show, most pets like Carnilove.

  • Favorable price for large packages
  • Easily chewable granules

The best analogues of Royal Canin food for dogs

Dogs require a special approach to feeding, because they are one of the most sensitive pets. Allergies to chicken, corn, wheat, certain types of vegetables and even seafood are quite common among them. Because of this, picking up food can be difficult and very budget options are often not suitable. Luckily, there are plenty of decent premium and super premium solutions at a reasonable price that are best suited for dogs, even the most sensitive and prone to allergies or other individual reactions.

Top 5. Meglium Sensible Breeders for sensitive digestion, lamb, with rice

Rating (2022): 4.59
Accounted for 154 feedback from resources: Yandex.Market, OZON, Review-review, SberMegaMarket
Optimal price-to-volume ratio

The most pleasant feature of Meglium was the low price with the maximum packaging. 20 kilograms of feed will cost only 4,000 rubles, which is several times cheaper than Royal Canin and any analogue.

  • Average price: 4,026 rubles.
  • Country: Italy
  • Age and size of the animal: adult (1-6 years old) dogs of all breeds
  • Food type: dry
  • Taste: lamb
  • Packaging options, kg: 3; fifteen; twenty
  • Protein: 23%
  • Fat: 14%
  • Ash: 7.4%

Despite the low cost, this food is from Italy and it fully corresponds to the European premium level. Meglium is free from the harsh artificial flavors that drive pets crazy, but most dogs love it for its natural lamb flavor with a slight chicken flavor. However, unlike a number of competitors, this food does not contain poultry meat, only a couple of percent chicken fat, which makes it suitable for many sensitive four-legged animals. Meglium is also praised for its easy to chew medium sized kibble, making it suitable for both spaniel and large shepherd dogs. But it is worth bearing in mind that this is not the most nutritious food due to the high content of cereals. In addition, they can cause allergies and other health problems.

Pros and cons
  • Low price
  • Optimal granule size
  • Chicken Minimum
  • Dogs eat well
  • Lots of cereals
  • Contains chicken fat

Top 4. Grandorf hypoallergenic, lamb, with brown rice

Rating (2022): 4.62
Accounted for 169 reviews from resources: Yandex.Market, Four Paws, Lemur, IRecommend, OtzyvKorm
Most popular puppy food

This dog food for up to a year scored significantly more positive reviews than its counterparts. And not without reason. The food has many advantages, including a reasonable price and composition.

High quality components

Although the price for 1 kg starts from 670 rubles, Grandorf is noticeably more nutritious and better absorbed in comparison with others for this money. This is a holistic with a meat content of as much as 60 percent.

  • Average price: 1,899 rubles.
  • Country: Russia (produced in Italy)
  • Age and size of the animal: puppies (up to 1 year old), pregnant and lactating dogs of all breeds
  • Food type: dry
  • Taste: lamb
  • Packing options, kg: 1; 3 and 12
  • Protein: 29%
  • Fat: 18%
  • Ash: 7.5%

What makes this dry food popular is not only the composition, but also the location of the most demanding critics - dogs. According to reviews, most pets eat Grandorf with an appetite. And most importantly, many are quite full of them and do not beg too much during the day. After all, the food was based on two types of meat, supplemented with rice, fish, apple, cranberries and a vitamin complex, instead of the empty and often allergic corn, which is often used by competitors. There is also no chicken, making it one of the best choices for those who have had to leave Royal Canina due to allergies. But here, too, there are surprises. Citrus fruits have become a feature of Grandorf foods, which can cause allergies or indigestion in sensitive dogs, so it is better to move gradually and with caution.

Pros and cons
  • Liked by most pets
  • Nutritious and rich in vitamins
  • Completely free of chicken and corn
  • Convenient packaging
  • Contains citrus fruits
  • The granules are quite small.

Top 3. Farmina lamb, with pumpkin, with blueberries 140 g (for small breeds)

Rating (2022): 4.65
Accounted for 75 reviews from resources: OZON, Otzovik, Old Farm, Unizo
Wide range of proteins

This food contains more sources of proteins and vitamins than other canned foods. Farmina is not only rich in lamb meat. The composition also included herring, eggs and vegetables.

Ideal for small breeds

In addition to the useful composition, this food is distinguished by small pieces, optimal for the smallest dogs. These canned food do not have to be additionally chopped by hand.

  • Average price: 177 rubles.
  • Country: Italy
  • Age and size of the animal: adult (1-6 years old) dogs of small breeds
  • Food type: wet
  • Taste: lamb
  • Packaging options, kg: 0.14
  • Proteins: 10.5%
  • Fat: 7%
  • Ash: 2.4%

Thanks to natural, carefully ground ingredients, Farmina's medium-priced wet food resembles a classic stew, which is still nostalgic for those who loved hiking in Soviet times. The juicy yet crumbly texture of canned food appeals to most small dogs. It is also convenient for the owners. After all, this is an absolutely ready-made solution that does not require additional efforts. In addition, if necessary, it is easy to add vitamins or an anthelmintic to such food. Canned food is quite liquid and successfully hides such additions. The rich smell also contributes to this. But it is worth noting that not everyone likes the tangible shades of fish. At the same time, due to herring, the food is slightly fatter than analogues and may not be suitable for sensitive digestion.

Pros and cons
  • Reminds me of stew
  • Most dogs enjoy eating.
  • Reasonable price
  • Soft crumbly texture
  • Smell strongly of fish
  • Not suitable for everyone

The main feature of this food was the concise composition of a full-fledged super-premium class, combined with a not very exorbitant price, especially if taken in large packages.

  • Food type: wet
  • Taste: turkey
  • Packaging options, kg: lamister 0.15 and can 0.4
  • Proteins: 8%
  • Fat: 6.5%
  • Ash: 1.5%

The best replacement for Royal Canin wet food. Despite the similar price, this analogue is really hypoallergenic due to its simple and healthy composition, which includes only meat and a vitamin and mineral complex. Unlike most analogues and Royal Canin itself, the food does not contain a single gram of cereals and other sources of gluten, as well as chicken and other popular allergens. Since Monge pate is monoprotein, there is only one source of protein here - turkey, the most hypoallergenic type of meat. This allows you to both avoid allergies and cure them, even if the causative agent is unknown. At the same time, even the most fastidious dogs like the pate. But it is important to consider that this food is not sold everywhere and fakes are sometimes found, so it is better to buy at a veterinary pharmacy or a trusted pet store.

Pros and cons
  • Does not cause allergies
  • Grain & Gluten Free
  • Monoprotein
  • Even picky eaters eat
  • There are fakes
  • Not sold everywhere

Top 1. Brit Veterinary Diet for Allergies

Rating (2022): 4.73
Accounted for 56 reviews from resources: Yandex.Market, OZON, Review-review, SberMegaMarket
The best hypoallergenic diet

Unlike some of the hyped supposedly hypoallergenic solutions, this food is actually devoid of common allergens. No chicken, no corn, no flavorings.

Grain-free formula for a reasonable price

Despite the relatively low price, Brit Veterinary Food is completely grain-free. But it is rich in such useful components as salmon meat, peas and buckwheat.

  • Average price: 1,458 rubles.
  • Country: Czech Republic
  • Age and size of the animal: adults (1-6 years old), puppies (under 1 year old), seniors (7+) of all breeds
  • Food type: dry
  • Taste: salmon
  • Packaging options, kg: 2; 12
  • Proteins: 27%
  • Fat: 14%
  • Ash: 7.2%

Brit Veterinary Diet is one of the best therapeutic diets designed specifically for allergy sufferers. Sensitivity to fish, buckwheat, legumes, apple and algae is extremely rare in dogs, so this food is suitable for almost everyone. The versatility of the diet is also facilitated by the practical average size of the granules, convenient for both small and medium breeds, and large ones. But for such crumbs as a toy terrier, they are still too big. However, the pellets are not very dense and many miniature dogs chew them easily, because the food smells good and pets eat it with pleasure. At the same time, as the reviews show, this analogue of Royal Canina not only treats allergies, but also improves the condition of the dog, from the shine of the coat and clean eyes to a more slender figure.

Pros and cons
  • Effective medicated food
  • Suitable for most
  • Nice smell
  • Improves appearance
  • Granules are large for the smallest breeds

The author of this topic, apparently, confused something in the names ... Or is it better to say "not knowing the ford, do not step into the water" if he thinks that the foods from the list are "analogues" of Royal. At least half of the feeds are not "analogues", but a much better alternative and replacement for Royal, which consists of ground bones and beaks. Karnilav, Farmina, Monge, Grandorf - this is at least a super-premium or holistic. Or Brit, for example, is an excellent premium (it used to be. Now Russia makes it and it's only a matter of time when it rolls down), so this is not even close to being an "analogue". Moreover, the Royal stands like a wing from a Boeing (in terms of prices, the author is also not very up to date, right?). And Proplan is certainly not more profitable (the composition is the same G, which does not reach the premium), especially veterinarians. They are even more expensive than the Royal. So the author can recommend a good consultation in a good pet store or a specialist. well, he will be enlightened on this issue before misleading people about the quality, price and benefits of the composition
