1. Engine power
What motor power is installed on the rotary hammer?One of the most important parameters that many users pay attention to in the first place. Our comparison includes models whose motors do not go beyond 900 watts. This is the optimal value, allowing you to easily perform all the tasks.
Motor power cannot be considered as the only and most important parameter. In some models, it is not the highest, while the tool is able to cope with the same tasks as a more powerful one. The power value has a correlation with the number of revolutions and the frequency of strokes. That is, it can be compensated for by other characteristics, which is what some manufacturers do.
We did not set a lower limit, and the weakest instrument included in our comparison is Interskol. It has a motor of only 450 watts, and this is almost two times lower than that of its closest competitor Makita, which has a 780 watt engine on board. Definitely, the Interskol product goes to the last place in the nomination.
Makita, DeWalt and Bosch are tied for second. They have 800 watts. Makita has a little less, but this is not critical. And the most powerful model is offered by Metabo. There are 880 watts, and this is the strongest rotary hammer in our comparison. However, it is still too early to make a choice, although for many users this criterion is enough, which is fundamentally wrong.

2. Impact strength
With what force does the perforator make a blow?In principle, any rotary hammer can be used as a conventional drill. In addition, all of our nominees have a drilling mode without impact, but professional practice shows that this is the least requested functionality. It is much more important to know with what force the perforator strikes. The indicator is measured in joules and has a direct relationship with engine power. To visually compare the contestants, consider these values in the table:
Model | Power, W) | Impact force (J) |
Bosch | 800 | 2,7 |
Makita | 780 | 2,7 |
Metabo | 880 | 3,2 |
DeWALT | 800 | 3,4 |
Interskol | 450 | 1,2 |
So, we see that DeWalt has the largest impact force, 3.4 joules. However, it does not have the most powerful engine on board. At the very least, it is weaker than Metabo, although there is less impact force. The energy is compensated by the frequency of impacts, which we will also talk about. As for this particular nomination, it makes sense to send DeWalt and Metabo to the first place. On the second Bosch and Makita, but the third Interskol. Its relatively weak motor is simply not capable of delivering much energy on impact.
3. Turnovers
What RPM does the tool run at?The main job of a hammer drill is to drill holes. It is drilling, not drilling. That is, for him the number of revolutions is not a critical factor.For example, at high impact energy, drilling can be performed very slowly. In addition, for the most complex tasks, it is precisely the low rotation speed that is used. But when drilling, the number of revolutions plays one of the most important roles, and since all the models we are considering operate in three modes, the winner will be the one with the highest this parameter.
To compensate for the speed when changing the operating mode, you can use the speed controller. It reduces or increases this indicator. The following values are the maximum number of revolutions that the rotary hammer can produce at idle, i.e. without load.
The winner is Interskol, whose idle speed is 1650. This is much more than other models. Thus, the manufacturer compensates for not the most powerful engine and mediocre impact force. That is, the hammer drill is definitely not the best in terms of power, but it is the fastest and this allows it to cope with exactly the same tasks as its competitors.
We send three participants to the second position at once: Dewalt, Metabo and Makita. The first two contestants have 1150 rpm each, and the third one is 50 units less. The difference is not critical, so it makes no sense to share places. And the slowest is Bosch, which has a rotational speed of only 900 revolutions. This is not much less than other models, but we are based solely on dry numbers, so only third place.
4. Impact frequency
How often does the perforator strike?All models included in our comparison have a mechanical percussion mechanism.This is a connecting rod that pushes the drill forward a certain number of times per minute.
Vertical engine models use a different technology. There, the drill pushes the pneumatic piston. This is a more advanced technology, so more complex work is available to rotary hammers with vertical motors.
This value must be correlated with the number of revolutions, since if the hammer rotates very slowly, but at the same time has a high impact frequency, it will be uncomfortable to work with it, which is very important, since the professional construction industry involves using the tool for many hours with minimal interruptions.
Model | RPM | Max beats per minute |
Bosch | 900 | 4000 |
Makita | 1100 | 4500 |
Metabo | 1150 | 4400 |
DeWALT | 1150 | 4300 |
Interskol | 1650 | 7500 |
As you can see, there is a connection between revolutions and the number of strokes, but it is not direct and may vary depending on the model. In any case, the fastest and, accordingly, the best hammer drill in this category is Interskol. Another way the manufacturer compensates for a weak motor and low impact energy.
The second place is again shared by three contestants: Makita, Metabo and Dewalt. Their values are almost the same, so it makes no sense to separate them. And Bosch has the slowest tool, which, however, is logical, given that it has the least rpm at idle.
5. Torque
What is the torque of the hammer drill?In scientific terms, torque is a force directed along the circumference of the object being measured. In a power tool, the parameter changes by increasing or decreasing the main gear on the gearbox.In practice, the lower the torque, the weaker the tool. For punchers, this parameter is not the most important, so many manufacturers do not even indicate it.
It is more relevant for drills, because if you encounter harder material when drilling, only a tool with high torque will be able to turn the drill. But we are considering rotary hammers with three modes, that is, they can also be used as drills and even screwdrivers, which means that this nuance also needs to be considered.
Torque should be comparable to engine power. Some manufacturers, in order to overestimate the performance, put large gears that create an excessive load on the motor. This leads to premature wear of the brushes, the rotor, and, as a result, the failure of the engine itself.
Among our nominees, models from Bosch and Makita have the highest torque. 38 newtons per meter. The model from DeWalt with 32 Newtons looks a little weaker. Metabo has the same meaning. And the weakest is Interskol, which produces only 18 units. Simply put, if you are drilling, for example, concrete, and inside you come across a harder fraction, crushed stone or rubble stone, the Interskol puncher will simply stop and will not be able to pass it. You'll have to make an effort. But Bosch or Makita, it is likely that they will not notice a change in density at all.

6. Drilling diameter
What is the maximum hole the tool will drill in concrete?The main work for a hammer drill is drilling holes in hard materials. It can be concrete, stone or brick. Of course, no one forbids drilling wood and even metal, but among manufacturers there is a norm according to which the maximum diameter in the concrete surface is indicated.
The value of the maximum diameter of the drilled hole is always indicated in the name of the model of the perforator. For example, for BOSCH GBH 2-26 DFR it will be 26 millimeters, and for Interskol P-18/450ER, respectively, 18.
There are only two entries in this category. 4 participants will go to the first place: Makita, Metabo, Bosch and Dewalt. Their parameters range from 24 to 28 millimeters. There is a difference, but in practice it is not significant. In addition, this value is rather conditional and is advisory in nature. This is a combination of other factors, and if you decide to drill concrete 2-4 millimeters wider than recommended, nothing catastrophic will happen. Only the Interskol perforator stands out among our competitors. It has a maximum hole diameter in concrete of only 18 millimeters.

7. The weight
How much does the tool weigh?Professional construction work means you will be using the tool for a long time. The issue of convenience is very important here, and accordingly, the lighter the tool, the better. We have only one winner - Interskol. He weighs only 2 kilograms, while the other participants weigh a kilogram more. Some models have a weight of 2.9 kg, but this no longer plays a big role, so we send four participants to the second position at once.
8. Additional options
What auxiliary functions does the tool have?The best tool is the one that is most convenient and comfortable to work with. In addition to ergonomics and weight, comfort is influenced by the options that the manufacturer has installed on its model. All our nominees have a number of identical additions:
- reverse;
- screwdriver mode;
- speed control;
- spindle lock;
- start button lock.
This can be called basic functionality, although there are many models on the market that do not have these options. As for the expansion of the set, DeWalt, Bosch and Makita have it. These rotary hammers are equipped with a smoother speed control and the ability to set the blade in 40 positions. In addition, models from Dewalt and Bosch have the ability to connect dust bags to them, which is very convenient when working in clean rooms.
Metabo goes to second position. He also has additions, but not in such quantities as the winners. And the most modest option is Interskol. It is equipped with only a standard set of features and does not have any add-ons.
9. Equipment
What comes with the perforator?A puncher is a rather expensive tool, especially if professional equipment with high performance is considered. Increases the price tag and the need to buy additional components, such as drills, drills, nozzles and other little things. True, if you buy a model from Dewalt or Metabo, with them additional costs will be minimized. Here you get all the necessary handles, drilling depth gauges and even a set of bits and a depth gauge. This is the richest package, so these participants receive a well-deserved first position.
The sets of Bosch and Makita look a little more modest. Here, too, there are handles and limiters, but there are no drills, drills and crowns. They will have to be purchased separately, namely, they are the most expensive things in the configuration of the puncher. Well, we have the most modest Interskol. In its kit only the drilling depth limiter and an additional handle.
It is also worth saying a few words about the cases in which the tool is supplied. All participants have them, which is very convenient, but Interskol has this box rather nominal. The plastic is weak, the latches quickly fail, and so on. But Dewalt has a full-fledged instrumental case. Powerful, with stiffening ribs and reliable closing mechanisms.
10. Prices
How much do perforators cost?Of course, tool prices may vary depending on the seller, trading platform, and even the season. But we will take the average for 2022:
Model | Price, rub.) |
BOSCH GBH 2-26 DFR | 11 500 |
Makita HR2475 | 10 000 |
Metabo KHE 2860 Quick | 15 400 |
DeWALT D25124K | 11 200 |
Interskol P-18/450ER | 5 000 |
The winner in the nomination is unequivocal, this is the Interskol P-18/450ER perforator, which costs half as much as its closest competitor. An excellent result, however, quite predictable given the technical characteristics and Russian origin. Europeans, even manufactured in Asian countries, always cost more.
It makes sense to distribute the second position between Dewalt, Bosch and Makita. With average values, they have almost the same price tags. And the most expensive option is offered by Metabo.

11. Comparison results
Top professional rotary hammers by average score across all comparison criteriaModel | Total score | Number of wins by criteria | Winner in nominations |
DeWALT D25124K | 4.4 | 4/10 | Impact strength; drilling diameter; Additional options; Equipment. |
Makita HR2475 | 4.3 | 3/10 | Torque; drilling diameter; Additional options. |
Metabo KHE 2860 Quick | 4.3 | 4/10 | Engine power; Impact strength; drilling diameter; Equipment. |
BOSCH GBH 2-26 DFR | 4.1 | 3/10 | Torque; drilling diameter; Additional options. |
Interskol P-18/450ER | 3.9 | 4/10 | Turnovers; Impact frequency; The weight; Price. |
With a small, but still margin, the DeWALT D25124K perforator wins. This is the best option in terms of value for money.Relatively inexpensive, but at the same time a powerful tool, also in the maximum configuration, which includes drills and even crowns. Among the shortcomings of this model, or rather the entire brand, low maintainability and high cost of spare parts can be distinguished. However, repairs to these punchers are not often required.
The second position is shared by Makita HR2475 and Metabo KHE 2860 Quick. Also powerful models with a lot of advantages, but slightly inferior to the winner. In addition, Metabo has a significant drawback - the price. This is the most expensive hammer drill in our comparison. BOSCH GBH 2-26 DFR is weaker than competitors in terms of key indicators, and it is worth taking it if you have simple work to do. There is not the most powerful engine and low revs, but very high torque and rich basic equipment.
And the most modest, but at the same time the best puncher in terms of price - Interskol P-18 / 450ER. It does not boast a powerful motor on board or impact power, but it has high speed and frequency of impacts, which compensate for the listed shortcomings. The tool does its job well, and it's also inexpensive to repair. But you have to fork out for the purchase of components that are not in the basic version.
