1. Capacity
What is the amount of energy in the battery?Today even a child knows what the battery capacity is. In modern smartphones and tablets, the issue of autonomy has come out almost in the first place. Car batteries also have this value, and it is also measured in amperes multiplied by an hour of operation. Only the numbers are higher. They can range from 40 to 150 Ah, and, of course, the higher the value, the more expensive the module.
But do not immediately take the most powerful block. The best battery is the one that best fits your car. High capacity is required for machines with a lot of electronics on board. For example, some security systems and navigation modules can work even when the engine is turned off. Simply put, if you have an old VAZ with a minimum of electronics, a 50-amp battery will be enough, and it makes no sense to overpay. If we talk about average values, then this is 60-70 ampere-hours.
On modern batteries, you can also find a working resource parameter. It shows how long the battery will be able to deliver a stable 25 amps at a temperature of 27 degrees. That is, this is a parameter of the battery discharge rate. In winter, this value will always be lower.
As for our comparison, there will be only two positions on the pedestal. In the first place we send models with a capacity exceeding 70 Ah. These are Tyumen, Bosch and Varta batteries. The remaining participants go to second place, as their value fluctuates within 60 units.

The best choice for domestic SUVs
2. Starting current
What is the starting current of the battery? One of the most important parameters that you need to pay attention to in the first place. This value indicates how hard the battery will turn the car's starter. Accordingly, the more powerful the motor or the more difficult the weather conditions, the higher the starting current is needed. There is even a direct connection between starting current and engine size, and the recommended parameter will be indicated in the annotation for your car. Try to heed this guide and don't take smaller batteries, as they can easily start the motor in the summer, but simply won't turn the shaft in the winter. As for dry numbers, they can range from 500 amperes and above. It is not worth taking the most powerful battery right away. For a 1.5 liter engine and when operating mainly in a warm climate, a 500 amp battery will be more than enough.
To prevent manufacturers from being tempted to lie in numbers, standards have been developed in which the values of inrush current are prescribed. When buying a battery, be sure to look for an indication of standardization. For Russian manufacturers, this is GOST, for American - SAE, for Europe - EN, and specifically for Germany - DIN.If there is such a marking, then the specified starting current is true, which is confirmed by the agency for standardization and metrology of the state where the battery was produced.
In general, the best battery is not the one with the highest starting current, but the one recommended specifically for your car. But in order to determine the winner in the nomination, we still turn to dry numbers and give the first place to the nominees with the highest values. In our case, the winners are batteries whose starting current is above 600 amperes: Zver, Varta, Bosch and Tyumen. Akom and Multi batteries have a starting current of 560 and 540 units, respectively.
3. Battery type
What type is the battery? To understand this nomination, you need to go a little deeper into the technical part. Car batteries work with lead plates placed in an acid, alkaline solution or a special gel. By itself, lead is a fairly fragile material, and older batteries required regular maintenance. Manufacturers are constantly working on improving the module, so they came up with many alternative options.
To increase the initial strength of lead plates, antimony was added to their composition. This is called doping. The material has become more durable, but it is antimony that contributes to the boiling of the liquid, which must be added regularly. Reducing the amount of antimony, as well as replacing it with other materials, has significantly improved batteries, and in order not to get confused in the numerous modern batteries, we will consider them in the form of a table:
Battery type | Marking | Peculiarities | Comparison Participants |
low antimony | Sb/Sb; Sb | Reduced amount of antimony in the composition due to changes in the design of the plates | Not |
calcium | Ca/Ca; Ca | Antimony replaced by calcium | Tyumen; Multi; The beast. |
Hybrid | Ca/Sb; Calcium plus; Ca/Ag | Positive and negative electrode have different additives in the composition of the plates | Warta |
fiberglass | AGM | Each electrode is wrapped with glass fiber | Bosch |
Gel | Gel | Uses conductive gel instead of acid solution | Bosch |
Hybrid fiberglass | EFB | Polyester mesh added to fiberglass | Akom |
As you can see, low-antimony batteries are almost never used today. This technology has been practically squeezed out of the market by other materials. The most common option is to use calcium as an alloying component. It is relatively inexpensive, easy to manufacture and quite reliable. The technology is also quite old, so the calcium models included in our comparison will be sent to the last place.
Two participants can be placed in the second position: Wart and Akom. These are hybrid versions, but with different technologies. With almost equal technical indicators, an Akom battery will be cheaper to manufacture. EFB is one of the latest technologies that has made it possible to significantly reduce the cost of the production process.
And the winner is the battery from Bosch. This is an AGM class gel module. We talked about this at the very beginning of the article. The manufacturer used all the most technological developments, so this module can be safely installed on tuned cars, as well as on cars with a huge amount of electronics and non-standard components.

The most sophisticated battery
4. Service
Do I need to spend time on the battery?Maintenance of the battery basically consists of adding liquid to the one that has boiled away. Of course, if gel is used in the module, then this will not work, so such batteries are always maintenance-free. Calcium versions also use almost no liquid, so many manufacturers make them maintenance-free. Although often this simply pushes users to change the module faster, and not extend its life on their own.
Of the nominees included in our comparison, only two models are maintenance-free. This is Bosch, since it is gel, and Multu, since it uses a complex layout of cans that does not allow adding liquid. All other participants are serviced, so we give them the first position.
5. Polarity and terminals
What is the polarity of the battery and what terminals are used? When installing the battery in a car, it is important not to reverse the polarity. To do this, manufacturers make terminals of different sizes, and on cars, cables may simply not reach the other side of the battery. Polarity can be direct and reverse. If we are looking at the front of the battery, and the positive terminal is to our left, then the polarity is straight. When reversed, respectively, vice versa.
Direct polarity is used on most Russian-made cars.European concerns prefer reverse polarity, and some Americans even use the terminals on the side.
To determine the winner of the nomination, we will establish for ourselves that straight polarity is more preferable. It is more common on cars, and domestic manufacturers use it. Bosch, Zver, Multa and Tyumen have this arrangement of terminals. Reverse polarity only for Akom and Wart. In addition, you should look at the design of the battery. There is a European and an Asian type. For the former, the terminals are recessed into the housing, while for the latter, they protrude higher. We will not consider this parameter, since all our participants have a European layout.
MUTLU CALCIUM SILVER
Most popular model
6. Size and weight
What are the dimensions of the battery?Manufacturers of cars and batteries for them do not have any single standard in terms of size and weight. Modern technologies allow to significantly reduce the design and this is a definite plus. That is, the smaller the block and its weight, with its characteristics, the better. Of course, for the car itself, this parameter is not so important, but it is likely that in winter you will bring the battery home, and here dimensions are already very important. Our nominees look like this:
Model | Length (mm) | Height (mm) | Width (mm) | Weight, kg) |
Akom | 242 | 175 | 190 | 16,6 |
TYUMEN | 278 | 175 | 190 | 20 |
MUTLU | 278 | 175 | 190 | 18 |
VARTA | 261 | 175 | 220 | 17,3 |
Bosch | 278 | 175 | 190 | 17 |
The beast | 242 | 175 | 190 | 16,4 |
As you can see, the width and height parameters are the same for almost all participants. Only Warta stands out a little in width, but this is not critical. But the length varies, and sometimes quite significantly. Be sure to specify the size of the seat of your car so that the selected battery fits on it. As for the distribution of seats, the winner is the lightest and most compact models. We have a Beast, Akom and Varta. The length and weight of other models is higher, so we send them all to the second step of the pedestal.
Beast ZVK 6CT-60.0 LZU
Inexpensive model with optimal performance
7. Counterfeit protection
How well is the battery copy protected? The issue of counterfeiting and copying is very important. There are a lot of manufacturers on the market that produce batteries under the logo of another brand. They do not have the appropriate certificates and often the parameters are false. And it makes no sense to trust a fake, since no one knows what is inside.
The best option in terms of security is a battery from Bosch. The company pays a lot of attention to this issue, therefore, as a protection, it puts embossed embossing on the case, several holograms and the brand logo applied directly to the plastic. It is very easy to distinguish a fake from the original.
It also makes sense to send Varta to the first place, which also has many degrees of protection, including detailed documentation that comes with the kit.The second position belongs to Akom. The brand monitors fakes and uses embossing on plastic and holograms. True copies still sometimes make their way to the market, and quite reliable.
As for the rest of the participants in the comparison, they are quite modest with this question. There is little protection, so fakes come across quite often. Multu is especially subject to copying - a popular brand with large sales, therefore, unscrupulous manufacturers are very tempted to create a fake.
8. Recommended service life
How long is the battery guaranteed to last?Service life is a conditional value. It can vary depending on the nature of exploitation and a host of other variables that simply cannot be calculated. But each manufacturer conducts tests in laboratories, and indicates this value as a recommendation. In addition, the higher the working resource, the longer the warranty will be, so consider these two values:
Model | Service life, g | Warranty, g |
Akom | 5 | 1 |
TYUMEN | 3 | 1 |
MUTLU | 5 | 2 |
VARTA | 7 | 2 |
Bosch | 8 | 3 |
The beast | 3 | 1 |
The winners are visible to the naked eye. Batteries from, Bosch and Warta will last 7-8 years, which is not surprising, given that they are the most sophisticated and use the best technologies and materials. The second place will be given to participants who, according to the manufacturer, must have worked for at least 5 years. This is Akom and Multi. But the Beast and Tyumen are designed for only 3 years, so the position in the nomination is appropriate.
9. Reviews
What do users say about batteries?Real user reviews are the best way to understand the quality and reliability of a future purchase. All our participants are very popular in the market, so you can find a lot of comments about them on the net, both positive and negative. We will make it easier for you to read reviews and present a summary of all the comments left on the Yandex.Market and Otzovik websites. These are the most trusted resources where moderation is taken very seriously, so they can be trusted.
And let's start with the participants who scored the highest total user ratings. We have 3 of them, and they all go to the first place. For example, there are many flattering words about the Akom battery regarding the service life. People write about 7-9 years of perfect work, that is, the manufacturer not only did not deceive us, but even slightly reduced the real indicators.
Most owners have the same opinion about the Bosch battery: a powerful, high-quality battery that can be safely installed on the most modern car with tuning and additional electronics. There is practically no negativity about Warta either, and the main emphasis is on excellent performance in cold weather, even very severe ones.
The Zver battery, in turn, although it cannot compete with other models in terms of popularity, it also collects a lot of positive comments. In particular, it is praised for its full compliance with the specified values and attractive design. About the cartoon too said a lot of good things, but due to low copy protection, many users got a frank marriage and a fake.
And the third line of the nomination is occupied by Tyumen. Here the negative is much more common than in other participants. It turns out that the manufacturer periodically indicates incorrect information to the point that even the size is not true. It is recommended to carefully study the product before buying it. Marriage from the manufacturer is also not uncommon.
VARTA Blue Dynamic E23
Best quality
10. Price
How much do batteries cost? The cost of the battery consists of its technical characteristics and the materials used in the production. Therefore, it is unlikely that anyone will see something unusual in the price table:
Model | Price, rub.) |
Akom + EFB 60Е | 6 000 |
TYUMEN BATTERY PREMIUM 6ST-77L | 5 000 |
MUTLU CALCIUM SILVER | 7 300 |
VARTA Blue Dynamic E23 | 7 800 |
Bosch S5 A08 AGM | 15 900 |
Beast ZVK 6CT-60.0 LZU | 5 000 |
Despite the price is slightly higher than the competitors, we give the victory to Akom. This is the best option in terms of value for money. Having overpaid only a thousand rubles, you do not take a standard calcium battery, but a modern fiberglass battery.
The second position in terms of price is shared by batteries of 5 thousand: Tyumen and Zver. The third place belongs to Multu and Wart, although it is very difficult to compare them in terms of content and other parameters. And finally, this is the only nomination in our comparison, where there is a 4th position. We give it to Bosch, because despite its parameters and content, it costs twice as much as the same Varta, where there are similar characteristics and overall quality.
11. Comparison results
Best car battery by average score across all comparison criteriaModel | Total score | Number of wins by criteria | Winner in nominations |
Akom + EFB 60Е | 4.5 | 5/10 | Starting current; Service; Size and weight; Reviews; Price. |
Bosch S5 A08 AGM | 4.5 | 7/10 | Capacity; Starting current; Battery type; Polarity and terminals; Counterfeit protection; Recommended service life; Reviews. |
VARTA Blue Dynamic E23 | 4.5 | 6/10 | Capacity; Service; Size and weight; Counterfeit protection; Recommended service life; Reviews. |
Beast ZVK 6CT-60.0 LZU | 4.1 | 4/10 | Starting current; Service; Polarity and terminals; Size and weight. |
TYUMEN BATTERY PREMIUM 6ST-77L | 4.0 | 4/10 | Capacity; Starting current; Service; Polarity and terminals. |
MUTLU CALCIUM SILVER | 3.8 | 1/10 | Polarity and terminals. |
Despite the fact that three participants scored the same score at once, and Bosch and Wart had more victories, we give the first place to Akom + EFB 60E. This is the best battery in terms of value for money. It can be installed both on an old VAZ and on a modern foreign car. The only limitation here is the charge capacity, but the price is very attractive and will not hit your pocket.
As for the Bosch S5 A08 AGM, it became the winner in the nominations more often than others. Certainly a high-quality, reliable and very powerful battery, but the price nullifies all these advantages. Putting such a battery on a VAZ or a simple foreign car does not make sense, but if you have a fancy car with a lot of electronics, then this is definitely the best choice. Like Varta, which is bought once and for many years.
Zver, Tyumen and Multu scored almost the same number of points. These batteries can not be called bad or low-quality, but in terms of performance they are far inferior to the winners. In addition, Multu is the most counterfeited brand on the modern market. For some reason, the manufacturer still does not pay enough attention to copy protection, which causes a certain negative in the reviews.
