1. Power
What is the power of the tool? The power of a tool is measured in kilowatts or horsepower. The second indicator is relevant only for internal combustion engines, but despite the fact that the chainsaw uses it, both values \u200b\u200bare found in the descriptions. No difference. Power can be transferred back and forth. We will consider two options:
Model | Kilowatts | Horsepower |
Makita EA3502S-40 | 1700 | 2.28 |
Husqvarna 135 Mark II | 1600 | 2.17 |
STIHL MS 211 C-BE | 1700 | 2.3 |
CHAMPION 241 16 | 1800 | 2.45 |
CALIBER BP-1800/16U | 1800 | 2.45 |
Steher BS-45-40 | 1800 | 2.4 |
As you can see, with the same kilowatts, horsepower may differ slightly. In fact, this is just a calculation error, and therefore the difference is insignificant. As for our participants, the most powerful are Champion, Caliber and Steer. They have 1800 watts. Models Shtil and Makita will give the second place. Both participants with the same values. And the weakest option is the Swedish Husqvarna with its 1.6 kilowatts.

2. Engine volume
What is the cubic capacity of the motor? One of the most important indicators of internal combustion engine is volume.Power directly depends on it, but these values \u200b\u200bare not always proportional to each other. Simply put, with the same volume numbers, saws can have different power ratings. The best model here will be the one with the largest crankcase, since in the absence of various auxiliary modules, it will have a certain margin.
The largest engines are in models from Caliber and Steer - both 45 cubes each. We give them first place in the nomination. Husqvarna and Champion are slightly smaller, 40 cubes each. Second line. And the most compact engines are those of Shtil and Makita, 35 cubic centimeters each. As you can see, there is a correlation between engine size and tool power, but it is not obvious. For example, the Husqvarna, at its lowest relative power, has a smaller motor than the more powerful Makita.
3. Turnovers
What RPM does the saw run at?The number of revolutions is an indicator indicating the speed of rotation of the chain. This is the most controversial point for any tool, since at some points it is important that it rotate faster, and at some slower, but at the same time with increased power. Our participants are all single-speed, so changing the speed will not work. Be that as it may, we are talking about a household tool, and if you have a house or a summer house where you just need to saw branches, then the faster the chain spins, the better.
Model | idle | Maximum chain speed (r/m) |
Makita EA3502S-40 | 2800 | 12000 |
Husqvarna 135 Mark II | 3200 | 9000 |
STIHL MS 211 C-BE | 2800 | 15000 |
CHAMPION 241 16 | 3000 | 11500 |
CALIBER BP-1800/16U | 3000 | 9000 |
Steher BS-45-40 | 3000 | 11000 |
It can be seen that the idle speed is almost the same for all models with a slight difference. That is why for comparison we took another indicator - the maximum speed, and here the differences are already visible to the naked eye.
The fastest and therefore most productive chainsaw is Stihl. The only model in our comparison with a rate of more than 12 thousand per minute. Definitely first place. On the second line we will send participants whose values are above 10,000 revolutions. These are Steer, Champion and Makita. And Husqvarna and Caliber are tied for third at 9000 rpm.

4. Noise level
How loud is the instrument?A chainsaw is a rather noisy tool and it is better not to work with it early in the morning or late in the evening, so as not to incur the righteous wrath of the neighbors. It is impossible to make such an instrument completely silent, but some models are louder, while others, on the contrary, work quieter.
According to the law of the Russian Federation, the use of instruments with a noise level above 90 decibels is possible only from 8 am to 10 or 11 pm, depending on the region. Violation of the regime can entail not only the anger of neighbors, but also an administrative fine.
Among our competitors, the Husqvarna is the loudest at 116 decibels at full load. However, the other participants were not far behind. Their performance ranges from 110 to 114 decibels. It makes no sense to divide the steps of the pedestal between them. Let's just give everyone except Husqvarna the first line.
5. anti-vibration
Does the saw have vibration protection? The main problem when working with a chainsaw is vibration. It goes on constantly and, out of habit, can lead to rapid fatigue, which then will take a very long time to pass. Modern manufacturers use a variety of ways to dampen this vibration, but it is completely impossible to remove it.
Long work with such a tool can lead not only to fatigue, but also to specific diseases of the wrists. If you do not have much experience, try to take breaks more often and do not saw for more than one hour per set.
At the same time, each manufacturer uses a system of its own design, but in the domestic segment, it is simply important whether it exists or not. The presence of an anti-vibration function is present in three nominees: Makita, Husqvarna and Stihl. However, this is not surprising given the status of these brands and prices, which we will discuss below. The rest of the participants do not have vibration protection, so it will be more difficult to work with them, and therefore, the second line in the nomination.
6. Fuel consumption
How economical is a chainsaw?A household chainsaw uses a two-stroke internal combustion engine, that is, a mixture of gasoline and special oil is required to refuel it. This tool also uses another type of oil, chain oil. A separate tank is provided for it, from where it is fed to the tire to reduce friction.
Tool instructions often list the recommended type of oil. Do not neglect these tips, as manufacturers carefully test this point, and non-recommended lubricant can significantly reduce service life. Yes, branded oil is expensive, but by saving on it, you will increase the cost of subsequent repairs.
As for the consumption of the fuel mixture, you will not find these values in any description. The parameters are conditional, since there is a difference, sawing knots near the house or in the country, or dissolving an oak log. However, there is a lot of information about fuel consumption in the reviews. For example, on the website All Instruments, where the score is set for each nomination:
Model | Fuel consumption (5-point scale) | Fuel tank volume (l) | Oil tank volume (L) |
Makita EA3502S-40 | 4.5 | 0,40 | 0,29 |
Husqvarna 135 Mark II | 4.9 | 0,35 | 0,26 |
STIHL MS 211 C-BE | 4.5 | 0,28 | 0,18 |
CHAMPION 241 16 | 4.5 | 0,31 | 0,21 |
CALIBER BP-1800/16U | 3.7 | 0,55 | 0,26 |
Steher BS-45-40 | 4.3 | 0,55 | 0,26 |
The parameters of the volumes of the fuel and oil tank are given for convenience. They do not affect the final assessment, and simply help to better understand how long the chainsaw will work at one gas station. And in terms of fuel consumption, the best model is the Husqvarna. Users of the All Tools portal are absolutely convinced of this. Second place went to Makita, Shtil, Champion and Steer. But the Caliber, according to buyers, is the most voracious, and, accordingly, it has the lowest rating. Third place in the nomination.

The best choice
7. Reviews
What ratings are given by real users? To get the most adequate user rating, we will take data from the three most popular portals: Yandex Market, All Tools and 220 Volts. These stores carefully monitor the comments and weed out obvious orders. Also, All Instruments and 220 Volts have a distribution of points in different categories, so it will not only be possible to see the final rating, but to determine which parameters are most liked by real buyers:
Model | General quality | Comfort and ergonomics | Total score |
Makita EA3502S-40 | 4.9 | 4.8 | 4.6 |
Husqvarna 135 Mark II | 4.9 | 4.9 | 4.9 |
STIHL MS 211 C-BE | 4.7 | 4.5 | 4.6 |
CHAMPION 241 16 | 4.6 | 4.6 | 4.3 |
CALIBER BP-1800/16U | 3.6 | 4.2 | 3.9 |
Steher BS-45-40 | 3.8 | 4.4 | 3.9 |
The results are unlikely to surprise experienced users. Husqvarna is one of the leaders in the garden equipment market, so its chainsaw is the best according to buyers. It is of the highest quality and comfortable. It consumes fuel economically and has an anti-vibration system. Definitely first place. The second line is shared by Makita, Calm and Champion. The total score is also quite high, but there are complaints about some nuances. But Caliber and Steer lose in all positions.
8. Dimensions
What are the dimensions of the saw?The size of the saw is very important, as the convenience of work depends on it. This is especially true if you are going to cut branches at a height, and a private house or cottage most often provides for just such an application. So, the sizes of our participants look like this:
Model | Length (mm) | Width (mm) | Height (mm) |
Makita EA3502S-40 | 415 | 273 | 269 |
Husqvarna 135 Mark II | 480 | 260 | 350 |
STIHL MS 211 C-BE | 470 | 270 | 300 |
CHAMPION 241 16 | 395 | 270 | 245 |
CALIBER BP-1800/16U | 520 | 270 | 280 |
Steher BS-45-40 | 435 | 260 | 310 |
Our most compact are Makita, Champion and Steer. The best configuration for working at heights or in uncomfortable positions. Husqvarna and Stihl are slightly larger. Not critical, but still second place. And Caliber is the most bulky.
Makita EA3502S-40
The most reliable saw
9. The weight
How much does the tool weigh?Another important parameter for convenience, along with dimensions. The best chainsaw is the one that weighs the least. We have this Makita with 4.4 kg. The lightest model, albeit with a lot of electronics on board. In second place we send Calm (4.6 kg), Husqvarna (4.6 kg) and Champion (4.7 kg). They are a couple of hundred grams heavier, but still within the normal range. It is more convenient to work with them, as with Makita, so we allocate places solely on the basis of dry numbers.
But Steer and Caliber are the heaviest, both about 6 kg. Not everyone can handle that kind of weight. In addition, you can forget about long work. If you just cut firewood on the ground, this weight is still acceptable, but try sawing off a branch at a height - and you will understand how important the weight parameter is for a gasoline tool.
10. Price
How much do chainsaws cost?Since the price parameter is conditional and can vary greatly depending on many factors, let's compare the participants by average price tags:
Model | Price, rub.) |
Makita EA3502S-40 | 32 600 |
Husqvarna 135 Mark II | 25 600 |
STIHL MS 211 C-BE | 37 000 |
CHAMPION 241 16 | 11 500 |
CALIBER BP-1800/16U | 6 000 |
Steher BS-45-40 | 7 200 |
We have two winners: Caliber and Steer. Both cost less than 10 thousand. The best price on the market. We will give the second line to the Champion. It's a little over 10, but still optimal. But Husqvarna, Shtil and Makita are the most expensive, which is not surprising, given the fame of these brands and their quality.

11. Comparison results
Top chainsaws for the home by average score across all comparison criteriaModel | Total score | Number of wins by criteria | Winner in nominations |
Steher BS-45-40 | 4.3 | 5/10 | Power; Engine volume; Noise level; Dimensions; Price. |
CHAMPION 241 16 | 4.3 | 3/10 | Power; Noise level; Dimensions. |
Makita EA3502S-40 | 4.2 | 4/10 | Noise level; anti-vibration; Dimensions; The weight. |
STIHL MS 211 C-BE | 4.1 | 3/10 | Turnovers; Noise level; Antivibration. |
Husqvarna 135 Mark II | 4.0 | 3/10 | anti-vibration; Fuel consumption; Reviews. |
CALIBER BP-1800/16U | 3.9 | 4/10 | Power; Engine volume; Noise level; Dimensions. |
The results of the comparison will certainly surprise many. Market leaders were not on the first lines. Actually, it's easy to explain. We considered models for the home, that is, household. If you have a dacha and you cut branches on trees from time to time, it simply does not make sense to take a unit from Husqvarna or Makita.
Yes, these models are also often classified as household, but they are as reliable and durable as possible. And besides, they are very expensive. The best chainsaw in terms of price-quality ratio, and this is exactly what is needed in everyday life, is Steer. Not the most budgetary, but in almost all nominations it takes second place.
