More often, moonshine stills are bought assembled. It is not always possible to find enough reviews for individual cubes to give an objective assessment. When compiling the rating, we took into account everything that we could find - characteristics, individual reviews on various resources, opinions from forums and discussions on social networks. Separately, they are bought mainly for four reasons: damage to the old tank, increase in volume, reduction in price, or making their own, complicated design. We will not give advice to experienced distillers. They have already delved into the intricacies of home brewing, made up their own ideas about quality and convenience. The rating is aimed more at beginners. At the stage of mastering the basics, they may need a hint. Before reviewing the models, here are the key points:
Volume. This is at the discretion of the user. Do not forget only that you can not fill in the very "neck". About 20% is left to rise the foam.
Material. A good alembic is made of food-grade stainless steel. The AISI 304 grade is not magnetic. For compatibility with an induction hob, the bottom must be ferromagnetic, made of AISI 430 steel. There are copper models, but they are for grain mash, not sugar moonshine.
Safety valve. It is also called a rupture valve. Releases excess pressure when it is exceeded. This is the main element of security.
drain cock. It is needed with a volume of more than 20 liters. Look at the shape - the taps bent down are more convenient.
metal thickness. It is desirable that the walls are not thinner than 1 mm, the bottom - 1.5 mm. To work with thick brags, you need an even thicker bottom.
Neck diameter. The convenience of filling the mash and washing after the haul depends on the width of the neck. The most convenient models are pan-type models with a completely removable lid. For flange connection, the neck must be at least 11 cm.
Additions. This is a tie-in for a heating element, an additional filler neck, protective pads on the handles, the ability to install a sieve for brewing beer. These are all nice additions.
Top 10. Phoenix
Phoenix is available in different sizes - from 12 to 120 liters. A suitable size will be selected by beginners and experienced distillers.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 12650 rubles.
- Volume: 20 l
- Metal: AISI 430
- Wall/bottom thickness: 1mm/1.5mm
- Neckline: 11.2 cm
Not the worst distillation cube of the Dobry Zhar company. The built-in heating element simplifies the task of the distiller to the utmost and saves money. No need to lift a heavy tank onto the stove or buy an additional induction hob. The device can be placed where it is convenient for you. In the standard configuration there is a heating element for 2 kW. It is enough for a volume of 20-30 liters, for 40-60 liters it is rather weak, heating is slow. Such heating elements are installed for safety reasons. If you are not satisfied with the power, you will have to change it yourself or distill it on a tile. Flange mount, on six winglets - keep this point in mind if you select a cube for an already purchased distiller or column. In terms of quality, there are some complaints from buyers - a leaky faucet, a thin bottom.
- Built-in heater
- Volumes up to 60 liters
- Reliable, welded handles
- flange connection
- Complaints about quality
Top 9. Finland
Bards usually supplement cubes of more than 20 liters with a tap for draining. In Finland, they are even on small 12-liter tanks.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 7990 rubles.
- Volume: 22 l
- Metal: AISI 304
- Wall/bottom thickness: 1.5mm/2mm
- Neckline: 11 cm
Despite the name, the cube has nothing to do with Finland. It is produced in Russia by the Helikon company. The model is simple, for working with standard distillers on a flange connection. A bimetallic thermometer, not the best in accuracy, is installed here. But from the pluses we will name a safety valve and a cone shape. The tap is curved, it is easier to drain the hot stillage with it. The jet will be directed downwards, the risk of burns is minimal. They are put even on the smallest cube of 12 liters. Finland is produced in three volumes - 12, 22 and 30 liters. Steel is good, grade AISI 304.The manufacturer does not write anything about the ferromagnetic bottom, but in the characteristics it indicates that the device works on all types of plates. The disadvantages include not the best welding quality.
- For all types of plates
- bent drain cock
- There are small volumes
- Tapered design
- Bimetal thermometer
- No tie-in under the heating element
- Weak welding quality
Top 8. Knight
Distillation cubes Vityaz are cheaper than containers of the same volume from other companies.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 5650 rubles.
- Volume: 20 l
- Metal: AISI 304
- Wall/bottom thickness: 1mm/2mm
- Neckline: 11 cm
A simple but reliable cube in case the old tank has fallen into disrepair or you assemble the moonshine yourself. It is compatible with distillers and beer columns with a neck diameter of 11 cm and five winglets. The model is inexpensive - a volume of 20 liters will cost about 5500 rubles, for 30 liters - 6500 rubles. The difference in price is small, it is more profitable to take a large tank right away. Stainless steel AISI 304 is not corroded by corrosion, the bottom is ferromagnetic, you can work on all types of stoves. There is no tie-in under the heating element. Nothing good can be said about the thickness of the metal, but two stiffening ribs make the structure stronger. This is a simple model at a good price for working with sugar moonshine. Thick fruit and grain mashes will burn due to the thin bottom. Of the minuses, we will also call a bimetallic thermometer. It doesn't show temperature as accurately as electric models.
- Low price
- Wide neck
- Compatibility with induction cookers
- Drain cock and safety valve
- Bimetal thermometer
- flange connection
Top 7. Practitioner
The practice is simple but reliable. It is made of good steel, there are options for 1.5 and 2 inches.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 7150 rubles.
- Volume: 20 l
- Metal: AISI 430
- Wall/bottom thickness: 1mm/1.5mm
- Neckline: 11 cm
The distillation cube Practik is a ready-made basis for assembling a moonshine still. You can install any distillers and columns on it. The kit already comes with a lid with lambs fixation. The drawer and other components are attached to it with clamps. The Practician goes 1.5 inches, the Practician Pro goes 2 inches. The cube is completely made of AISI 430 food steel, works on all plates, does not rust. Welds are strong, even and neat. The quality of the cube is good, although it is not so expensive. Included is an accurate electronic thermometer with a nipple. It is installed on the tank lid, in a steam environment, for this you can put a small minus. There is no blast valve; for safe operation, it is better to modify the cube. There is no drain tap either, but for 20 liters this is not critical.
- Steel quality
- Digital Thermometer
- Clamp flange
- Smooth welds
- No drain cock
- No blast valve
Top 6. Dr. Guber
An additional insert instantly doubles the volume of the cube, and the sieve turns it into a container for brewing beer.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 12600 rubles.
- Volume: 25 l
- Metal: AISI 304, AISI 430
- Wall/bottom thickness: 1.2mm/-
- Neck: detachable cap
Solid stainless steel cube with smooth, carefully machined welds. It looks good and adapts to different moonshine stills. The cube itself costs a little more than the same volume models of other brands. But there is no cover in the kit, it will cost the full price of the tank, or even more. There are different lids to choose from: conical and spherical, 1.5 and 3 inches, stainless steel or copper. The 25 liter cube can be doubled with a copper or stainless insert. It will cost about 13,000-14,000 rubles more. The assembled cube is very expensive. Of the pluses - displacement markings on the inside. You can simply pour the mash from the fermentation tank without measuring it in jars. The design of the faucet for draining stillage with a spout tilted down is good. But distillers still consider the price unreasonably high.
- Liter markup
- Increased copper insert
- Shelf for slotted sieve
- Smooth welds
- Analog thermometer
- Cover not included
Top 5. Dobrovar
Dobrovar is sold without a lid. But this is one of its advantages - you can choose the lid yourself so that it fits exactly to your moonshine still.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 7500 rubles.
- Volume: 23 l
- Metal: AISI 304, AISI 430
- Wall/bottom thickness: 1mm/2mm
- Neckline: 12 cm
Dobrovar produces cubes of 20, 30 and more liters. There are models with a tie-in for a heating element with a threaded or clamp connection. According to their characteristics, they are the most common. The walls are made of food steel AISI 304, the bottom is made of AISI 430, so that you can work on induction hobs. The neck is wide, a man's hand easily crawls into it. The lid is fastened with winglets. It is not included in the kit. For some, this is a minus, but there is also a plus. All covers are different, you can choose an option for a 1.5, 2-inch device or even with a threaded connection. The safety valve will be installed in any case. Not even a thermometer is included. But there is a fitting for its installation or connection of the automatic temperature sensor. The cube is comfortable to use, the handles are complemented by wide plastic overlays.
- Insert under the heating element on the clamp
- Wide neck
- Additional stiffeners
- Plastic pads for handles
- Sold without lid
- Sharp neckline
Top 4. Wein 2 inches
The reinforced double cone lid can withstand the heaviest and heaviest columns.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 15490 rubles.
- Volume: 37 l
- Metal: AISI 304
- Neck: detachable cap
The distillation cube from the Wein column is a good basis for assembling a moonshine still. It is available in three sizes - 20, 37 and 50 liters, with a 2-inch clamp connection. External similarity with other pan-type cubes is deceptive. Here the design is better developed. The electronic thermometer is installed in a liquid, not a vapor environment. Temperature readings are more accurate, less likely to run tailings during selection. There is a displacement marking inside the tank, it is easier to measure the volume of mash for distillation. The column can be placed large and heavy. Reinforced double cone cover withstands increased loads. The bottom is thick, 5 mm, you can work with thick mash and brew beer. The crane is enlarged, but unfinished. It is straight, the jet with pressure will beat forward. Curved would be more comfortable.
- Displacement markup
- thick bottom
- Thermometer in liquid environment
- Reinforced cone cap
- Non-adjustable collar
- Straight drain tap
Top 3. Luxstahl Absolute
Even novice distillers have heard or read about Luxstal. This is a solid cube with a thick bottom, an optimal price-quality ratio.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 9450 rubles.
- Volume: 25 l
- Metal: AISI 304, AISI 430
- Wall/bottom thickness: 1mm/5mm
- Neck: detachable cap
On the basis of Luxtal pots, many moonshine stills are assembled. Versatility, quality-price ratio make them popular. The Absolute is available in several sizes, 1.5" and 2" and is compatible with most columns and clamp distillers. Adapters can be used to change the installation connection. The bottom is thick, three-layer, recognized by induction cookers. The cover is fastened with a metal clamp, completely removed. It is easy to wash such a tank-pan. There are two sides to a thermometer – good and bad. It is bimetallic, you can not vouch for the accuracy of the temperature. But it is installed from below, in a liquid medium. This is the only way to correctly determine the temperature in order to stop the chase in time.
- Popular brand
- thick bottom
- Various connection options
- Proper location of the thermometer
- Bimetal thermometer
- No tie-in under the heating element

Top 2. Bulat Bogatyr
Bogatyr is the only participant in the rating with an additional filler neck. This is convenient when you need to overtake a large amount of mash in a short period of time.
- Country Russia
- Average price: 16790 rubles.
- Volume: 37 l
- Metal: AISI 304
- Wall/bottom thickness: 2mm/5mm
- Neck: detachable cap
The pot-type distillation cube is available in different volumes - from 12 to 50 liters. You can put a standard distiller, a wash or even a two-meter distillation column on it. A thick cover made of 3 mm stainless steel holds the structure firmly and does not deform. The bottom is even thicker - 5 mm. Thick mash burns less, and if you buy an additional removable sieve, you can also brew beer. The bottom is ferromagnetic, compatible with induction hobs. Cubes of all sizes have an auxiliary filling hole in the lid. This is a feature of the Bulat Bogatyr models. The additional neck is hermetically sealed with a plug. It is needed for continuous distillation in order to fill in a new portion of mash after draining the bard through a tap, without disassembling the entire structure. Distillers put a minus at a high price, but the disadvantage is smoothed out by the strength of the tank.
- For distilling mash and brewing beer
- Thick ferromagnetic bottom 5 mm
- Removable lid with clamp
- Additional filler neck
- Strainer for thick brew sold separately
